Artwork Guidelines
Please use this checklist when preparing your files for La Crosse Graphics. The checklist is provided to help you avoid potential problems or additional costs and help speed up the turn around time for your project. Pdf files are preferred otherwise a $10 per page raw file fee will be charged (unless raw files are quoted on your bid). Instructions for creating a pdf file using our printing specs can be obtained off our ftp or web site.

1. File Name
Keep the name simple (under 18 characters). Use the company, project name, and/or PO Number to help identify the file(s).
2. Page Size/Panel Sizes Correct
Your document size should be the same size as the final trimmed size, which is specified on your quote. When setting up your document, please plan ahead for any folds or sizing issues to ensure proper function of your project. If your project is saddle stitched, build your document in reader's spreads with facing pages but when creating the pdf, uncheck spreads.
3. Bleeds
A bleed occurs when the ink prints off the edge of the paper. Please allow .125 or 1/8 inch of extra artwork off the trim edge of your project.
4. Color
No RGB graphics or text! RGB is used for viewing images on a monitor. Acceptable color: CMYK, Pantone Spot Color, Metallic Spot Color Ink. Two color or multiple spot printing can be set up with pms (Pantone Matching System®) colors. For black type/text, always use 100% black (not 4-color built or registration black). IMPORTANT: Do not attach any color profiles to any files (images, documents, pdf files)! The Color Management setting should be set to "same as source" (no color management).
5. Images
EPS or TIF file formats are the standard of the industry for high resolution images. 300 dpi (resolution) is for high quality printing. If using Photoshop to create your artwork, please flatten layers before saving and putting into your document. If not flattened, the images will appear low resolution.
6. Fonts
PDF files must have fonts embedded! When submitting .eps or .ai files, please have all text in outlines. Both screen and printer files used in your document must be submitted when providing raw/native files for print.
7. Acceptable File Formats
Adobe Acrobat (.pdf), Illustrator (.eps, .ai or .pdf), Adobe Photoshop (.psd, .tif or .pdf), Adobe InDesign (.indd, .eps or .pdf), QuarkXPress (.qxp, .eps or .pdf), Postscript Files (.ps). If you use Publisher, Word or any other type of program other than what's specified here, please provide a (.pdf) or (.ps).
8. Proofread
Please spell check your documents and review all information to ensure accuracy.
9. Print Guide
Whenever possible, send a hard copy to show folds, perfs, and/or cuts.
10. Dielines
Create a new spot color in the color palette called ?dieline.? Make the dieline a spot color, 1 pt thickness, and set the line to ?Overprint?.
