Prepress Services |
 |
The Prepress department at La Crosse Graphics has seen significant growth in recent years. We have steadily upgraded our technology and equipment to anticipate the demands and meet the exacting standards of our clients' needs with speed, flexibility and unmatched quality. |
|
|
The prepress department at La Crosse Graphics utilizes only the finest equipment available to produce the best results for you. We use the Creo/Kodak imaging system. This is the finest system available on the market today. The Creo/Kodak system can accept all file formats and has the ability to perform a variety of tasks simultaneously, such as previewing, trapping, imposing, image-setting, proofing and generating plates for press. Creo/Kodak gives us the ability to offer our customers the super-sharp stochastic screening for high-definition printing. If desired, conventional line screens will also continue to be available.
Our workflow today has evolved into using a PDF file format. This allows us to save the customer money, along with the ability to produce the customers' proofs and finished products faster. The use of InSite, our prepress and file transfer portal, allows our customers to upload and process files in record time.
To remain cost effective and maintain quality for our clients, we utilize two types of digital proofs: the Epson Stylus Pro 9800 and the Creo Iris 43 Wide. The Epson proof is a high-resolution proof that is used on press for color accuracy. The Iris 43 wide proof, although low resolution, allows the customer to see a proof that is backed up, or paginated in booklet form representing the finished product. This proofing process is critical in providing our clients with a high quality end-product.

The Artwork Helpdesk
Here are a few helpful tips from our professional prepress department:
- Keep copy away from the edge so when the brochure, magazine, catalog, or booklet is trimmed, we're not cutting off text. A good rule of thumb is to keep text at least 1/8" away from the edge.
- For optimal brochure printing, make sure the panels are sized right to accommodate the fold. If your panels are all the same size, the fold will cause the text or images to be off-center unless extra space is designed into the appropriate panel.
- Make sure your images are 300 dpi or higher for optimum print quality. Open the photo using a photo editing program like Photoshop, which will provide the file size and dimensions.
- Make sure photos are set up using CMYK. When taking photos off of a camera, they're in RGB format, which can cause the finished print to look washed out.
The La Crosse Graphics Helpdesk will provide you with additional artwork guidelines to help you prepare your files to send to us, and instructions on how to properly produce a .pdf document.
